Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Student (2013)

"During my summer as an REU student at CIRP, I worked with Dr. Yi-Ching Lee on a study aimed at understanding the effects of peer passengers on teenage drivers’ responses to stressful traffic events and risk-taking tendencies. I focused on understanding how teenage participant pairs interacted with each other and on analyzing drivers’ eye movements during a driving simulation. As a junior at Muhlenberg College with plans to pursue a graduate degree in Statistics or Biostatistics, I feel that my summer at CIRP has given me a better understanding of my field and injury science as a whole.

I gained experience in working with human subjects, following IRB protocols, literature review, survey collection, coding, eye tracking and general data management. I will continue to use these skills as I continue my research throughout college and into my professional career. Dr. Lee and others at CIRP have influenced me to shift my educational and career interests towards mathematics, statistics, public health, and pediatric medicine."
