Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Student (2012)
"During the summer of 2012 I was a Research Experiences for Undergraduates intern at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Zonfrillo. I had the opportunity to work on several projects including compiling an extensive literature review on how age at injury affects functional outcome following a traumatic brain injury, coding of a survey distributed by Safe Kids to better understand child passenger safety misuse, and coding of a survey designed to acquire information on the demographics of users of the Safety Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Through my experiences I gained a better understanding of translational research and of the many possibilities for practicing physicians to engage in research. I graduated in May 2013 from Cornell University with honors in Biological Sciences, as well as a degree in Chemistry. I began medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in the fall of 2013. I am grateful for my experiences at CIRP and know that the skills and mentorship I received will help me immensely as I pursue a career in pediatric medicine and research."
