CIRP REU Training Testimonial - Caressa Wilson
CHOP Mentor(s):
Linda Fleisher, PhD, MPH; Eve Weiss, MS
I loved this experience, allowing me to confirm my passion to seek a career in physical therapy after I graduate. I gained an immense amount of knowledge in such a short period of time this summer. I am extremely grateful to everyone at CIRP who made my time here unforgettable.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Student (Summer 2017)

“During the summer of 2017, I worked at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) as a part of the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program under the mentorship of Linda Fleisher and Eve Weiss. With my team I worked on several different projects. I was a part of the AWARE project that aims to increase the number of successful Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant proposals submitted by women and minorities. I was responsible for identifying events, finding key contacts for insight, transcription of interviews, and qualitative data analysis using NVIVO. I also had a large role on the Merck Engage study. This is a long- lasting clinical study for patients with type two diabetes. My role was to perform data entry and patient follow-up calls.

I am a rising junior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I study Kinesiology. During these last 10 weeks of working at CIRP I gained invaluable experience in research. I was able to make networking connections at CHOP and had the opportunity to shadow four physical therapists in different concentrations at the hospital. I loved this experience, allowing me to confirm my passion to seek a career in physical therapy after I graduate. I gained an immense amount of knowledge in such a short period of time this summer. I am extremely grateful to everyone at CIRP who made my time here unforgettable.”
