The August 2018 issue of the Journal of School Nursing is devoted to school safety. It features a podcast with Catherine C. McDonald, PhD, RN on her work to create an evidence-based intervention to reduce adolescent driver inattention.
Engaging in handheld cell phone use increases the risk of a crash substantially, and peer passengers are also shown to increase the risk of being involved in a fatal crash. There’s a need for evidence-based, behavioral interventions grounded in theory that can address risk factors associated with driver inattention.
In the podcast, Dr. McDonald shares details about the development of this web-based intervention to help address this growing crash risk.
