We're starting a new feature -- Flashback Friday posts -- of highlighting past blog posts that remain relevant in today's news. This upcoming Monday, July 31st, is National Heatstroke Prevention Day, and in honor of that, I wanted to reintroduce Dr. Aditya Belwadi's post about child heatstroke in cars from last summer.

According to NoHeatStroke.org, there have been 19 children who have died from heatstroke in cars in 2017 to date. Last year, 39 children died from heatstroke in cars. Whether this year will surpass that number remains to be seen. Engineering and legislative efforts to reduce deaths from heatstroke in cars continue to populate the news, while car seat manufacturers and vehicle manufacturers have integrated technology into their products that aim to prevent heatstroke fatalities.

Read Dr. Belwadi's post on child heatstroke in cars and join @NHTSAgov on social media by using the hashtags #heatstrokekills and #checkforbaby.
